Analysis of the Dental Health Knowledges and Cares of Workers Chronically Exposed to Carbohydrate Dust

Abstract

|
Recently, the dental health has been felt very important in many industry and many investigators pointed out that the preventive dental health program must be realized as a function of a successful industrial health program.
The purpose of this study was to estimate the dental health knowledges and cares of workers who are chronically exposed to carbohydrate dust which is supposed to increase the prevalence of dental caries. The author questionnaired 583 female workers at S food company. The population was 20?29 years of age, and divided into 4 groups according to the duration of employment; up to 1 year, from 1 to 2 years, from 2 to 3 years, and over 3 years of employment. Dental health problems, dental demands, dental health cares, limiting factors affecting the consumption of dental healthcares, tooth brushing time and frequency in a day, and view about time interval of periodical oral examination and treatment were surveyed and analyzed.
The obtained results were as follows;
1. The percentages of workers experienced dental pain and disturbances in taking meals and of workers with dental demand increased according as the duration of employment increased. (p<0.01).
2. The percentages of workers experienced gingival bleeding, disturbances in labour and of workers receiving the periodical oral examination and brushing time and frequency and the view about time interval of periodical oral exam. and treatment were not changed according to the duration of employment. (p>0.05).
3. The characteristic environment of workers increased the dental health problems of workers.
4. To promote the dental helath status of workers, intensifying the oral health education, improving the working environment, establishing the dental health clinic in industrial plants, and establishing the incremental dental health care system were recommended.
